Will probe Saradha scam: BJP

Aware that the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam had created an adverse reaction against the Trinamool Congress, the BJP on Friday assured the Bengal electorate that the party would push for a CBI investigation once it comes to power. Party general secretary Ananth Kumar on Friday told a media conference in Kolkata that here was an express need to find out where the chit fund money had gone and in order to get to the bottom of it “the BJP will go for a CBI investigation into the scam.”

He said, “The BJP will investigate the case and after the probe, law will take its own course,” adding, “The culprits must be booked” and the party would ensure that they get punished.

Incidentally, party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had, in an election meeting held late last month at Serampore, made a similar promise wondering whether the ruling party was in any way connected to the scam.

His statement triggered a full-fledged war of words between him and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who called him an “arrogant devil.”

Reacting to Banerjee’s comment that while Modi thought himself to be a tiger he was unaware of the fact that Bengal is the place of the most ferocious tiger, Kumar on Friday said the Chief Minister was indeed a tigress but that went about appeasement only a section of the people.

“She is an appeasement tiger who is involved in vote-bank politics but Modiji is a development tiger,” Kumar said attacking the Trinamool for unleashing a reign of terror in the State during the past three years of its rule.

On the alleged mass rigging in April 30 polls, Kumar said his party would “meet the Chief Election Commissioner and complain about the violence and terror unleashed by the Trinamool during the elections,” adding his party would demand a foolproof security during the polls.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Kumar said, “The Prime Minister is nowhere to be seen these days as he has gone into a hiding after ruining the country’s economy.”
