Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear that his Government would present its side in the Supreme Court over the controversial issue of triple talaq after consultations with Muslim women.

Besides, all Women Ministers have been asked to meet women organisations to seek their views on the issue,” Adityanath said while reviewing a presentation made by Women’s Welfare and other departments.

The Supreme Court is slated to hear the Triple Talaq case from May 11 and the State Government, along with the Centre, is likely to give their views on the matter.

In the last few days, Muslim women have petitioned Yogi seeking intervention in Triple Talaq issue. The BJP has already opposed the Triple talaq system, saying that it was inhuman and an insult to the women.

The BJP Government has also asked Minority Welfare dDepartment to introduce History, Geography, Science, Maths and English in the course of all Madarsas in the State. Besides, vocational education and skill training would also be made compulsory. The department was also asked to get a comminity centre for minorities in every district.

Stating that security and welfare of women is one of the priorities of the state government, the CM said that  he would soon launch ‘Bhagya laxmi Scheme’ wherein the birth of a girl child in a BPl family will be given a bond of Rs50,000.  As per the scheme, as the girl reaches class VI she would get Rs3,000, in clas VIII Rs5,000, in class X Rs7,000 and in class XII Rs8,000. On attaining 21 years of age, the girl would get Rs2 lakh.

The CM lauded the Rani laxmibai Bravery Awards instituted by Women and Children Welfare Department and asked officials to propose a similar award for those women who have created a niche for themselves despite all odds.

Yogi directed the department  concerned to double the amount of monthly pension for widows. Adityanath said that in case a widow opts for remarriage, she would get Rs 51,000 in place of Rs11,000 and dowry victims would also get Rs500 as financial assistance per month.
