Will not hesitate to break ties with PDP if it acts against national interest: Shah

Amid ongoing controversy over the move of BJP ally People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to release separatist leader Masarat Alam in Jammu & Kashmir, BJP’s national president Amit Shah assured party workers in Ahmedabad that the saffron party would not hesitate to break ties with its alliance, if any step against national interest would be taken.

While addressing a party workers meeting in his Assembly constituency Naranpura in Ahmedabad, Shah further said that the BJP formed the Government with PDP in J&K for bringing out a permanent solution to the terror-prone State. He, however, said that the BJP would not hesitate to snap ties with the PDA if it senses that the alliance Government is not working towards the common minimum programme of both the parties.

“It is a matter of pride that the BJP has for the first time has become an alliance partner in Jammu & Kashmir Government,” said the BJP president, mentioning that after resounding success in the lok Sabha elections, first time ever the BJP Chief Ministers took oath in Haryana and Maharashtra, while under BJP, Jharkhand also has a stable Government.

Shah also expressed confidence over his party’s victory in upcoming Assembly elections in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal. He urged the BJP cadre to promote ongoing membership drive to achieve 10 crore target in order to make the saffron brigade as the largest political party in the world.

“If required, the membership drive will be extended for another two months to achieve the target,” he said adding that in the last lok Sabha elections, the BJP got 17 crore votes and if it would achieve the target of 10 crore members in the coming days, nobody can stop the party to win at least 372 seats even in the future elections.

Being a sitting MlA, Shah was in Gujarat to attend a mandatory session of the Gujarat legislative Assembly that too for the first time after he took over as the BJP president after his mentor Narendra Modi elevated as the Prime Minister last year.
