The Opposition parties are all set to raise the issue of ‘intolerance’ and demand a resolution in Parliament to condemn it as the Winter Session starts from Thursday.

While Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, in Bangalore, stated that the party would raise the issue of ‘intolerance’, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said he has given a notice in the Rajya Sabha seeking passage of a one-line resolution by the House condemning the incidents of ‘intolerance’. JD(U) too sought a resolution in Parliament condemning the atmosphere of ‘intolerance’ in the country.

“A notice has been accepted by the Chair. We want the resolution to be passed. Government says it is ready to accept a resolution to acceptable to all,” Yechury said. He said the Centre should hold talks with States on the issue of GST as they will lose all legislative power on tax matters once it comes into force.

Sharing the strategy for the Winter Session at the AICC briefing, leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and leader of the Congress in lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said as principal opposition party, Congress would behave as a responsible political party with regards to the legislations and legislative business and would support every Bill on merit.

JD(U) President and Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav said his party, alongwith the other Opposition members, will raise all the issues ranging from ‘Ghar Wapasi’, Dadri lynching to other incidents of similar nature showing ‘rise in intolerance’ in the 18 months of the NDA Government.

“The entire society is restless,” he said. The party has been repeatedly saying the Prime Minister should signal his intent to act against people spreading the “venom” by removing five Union Ministers, who made one or the other “provocative” remarks.

While Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said, “people may voice their opinion if they are hurt” but insisted that the democratic set up in India is the best, where everybody gets complete chance to voice their opinion.

Sources in the Congress said among those who may face the ire of the party, include Union Minister V K Singh over his “dog” comment over the killing of two young children from a Dalit family in Haryana.
