A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan who met with a serious accident at Tura in Meghalaya four months ago is battling for life at a Guwahati hospital while his family awaits for a better medical care and the immobile patient gets transported to a Chennai hospital by air ambulance.
Sepoy Mohan Singh, aged 44, of 183 BSF Battalion posted in Tura, Meghalaya met with an accident on July 17, 2016 where he sustained serious head injuries. He was part of a BSF convoy when his vehicle turned turtle. According to his medical reports half of Singh’s skull had to be removed and he has been unconscious since days though at times he has responded and attempted to raise head at the ICU of Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC), Dispur.
According to Mohan Singh’s wife Khashti, the doctors at GNRC, which is a reputed super specialty hospital chain in the Northeast region, have done their best and have kept the sepoy stable so far but she has expressed her desire for an advance treatment at Chennai Apollo.
Though Mohan Singh’s unit HQ has deployed two jawans in the hospital and officers visit intermittently to help in the hospital billings, BSF have asked her to bear the cost of air ambulance to transfer her to another city hospital which could be approximately Rs10 lakhs.
“I am grateful to his (Mohan Singh) department and indebted for the care they have given. But now, as he being the sole bread earner, my husband now urgently requires advanced treatment and wants him to take him to Chennai. According to a neurologist in the hospital his condition is very serious and they have advised me to urge the Government to air transport the sepoy as soon as possible but I do not have the finances,” she said.
Mohan Singh hails from Nainital and has served 18 years in the BSF. His wife has been camping in the hospital waiting room praying for recovery of her husband and they have a 10 year old daughter and son 6 years old son who are under the current circumstances staying with their aged grandmother at hometown.
