Whistleblower moves SC against NEET Ordinance

Published on:

Opposing the Centre’s Ordinance exempting Government and certain private medical colleges from taking part in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS and BDS courses, whistleblower in the Vyapam scam Anand Rai has approached the Supreme Court to quash the three-day-old law.

Challenging the Indian Medical Council Amendment Ordinance 2016 notified by the Centre on May 24, Rai in his petition exposed the Centre’s double talk by agreeing in the Supreme Court to give full effect to NEET in the current academic year and later changing stand by introducing the Ordinance to keep out Government medical colleges, States like Tamil Nadu that do not conduct any MBBS/BDS entrance test, and private medical seats filled through State CETs, from the purview of NEET.

Rai’s petition has tried to address the inherent contradictions introduced by Centre through the Ordinance and the impact it had on students preparing for the second phase of NEET scheduled for July 24.
