Welfare Party of India, the political organisation of Jamat-e-Islami Hindi will organise its first show of strength in Andhra Pradesh at its State conference in Hyderabad on May 26. The fledgling party, which has already become active in 12 States, will mark its foray into active politics in the State by mobilising its supporters from all over Andhra Pradesh.
WPI State president Malik Motasim Khan told a Press conference in Hyderabad that the party will not wait for the general elections of 2014 but will contest the local bodies elections expected to be held this year. It will be first time that a party backed by JIH will be testing the electoral waters.
“Our party will come forward with a distinctly different agenda of value-based politics and solutions to the problems of the people,” he said. Agreeing that talking of values in politics at a time when all the parties and the politicians were drenched in corruption was difficult, Khan said that someone has to make a beginning somewhere to restore the confidence of the people in the political system.
“If we offer a clean alternative, we are sure the educated class will take interest in electoral and political system,” he said.
Apart form the national leadership of the party including party chief Mujtaba Farooq, the conference will be attended by Prakash Ambedkar, son of Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution.
