Weekly DD show on Ayush from March 27

To popularise traditional Indian medicines among the masses, the newly- created Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) is all set to launch a new weekly show — Ayushman Bharat — on Doordarshan and its nine other regional kendras in their respective languages from March 27.

However, it has taken three-long-years for the programme to take shape, as it announced by the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in 2012. Ayush Department, which was under the Health Ministry, was given a full-fledged status of a separate Ministry by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year to revive the Indian traditional medicines.

On March 27, Ayush Minister Sripad Naik will deliver the message on the importance of the Ayush while the weekly programme will be kicked off from April 18, said Sandeep Vishnoi, media advisor with the Ayush Ministry.

Already there are numerous TV programmes appearing on private channels indicating the huge popularity of the Indian medicines among people. The programme aims to help the Ministry in achieving its goal of educating and creating a health conscious India through ancient systems of medicine and treatment. “The programme will mostly hold in-house discussions facilitating the branding of various AYUSH programmes, schemes and benefits,” Vishnoi said.

“Experts and AYUSH doctors will explain the benefits in local languages. Dedicated phone lines will be made accessible, offering solution to the viewers. The programme will exclusively focus on yoga in the run up to the international Yoga Day to be celebrated world over on June 21 as announced by the United Nations,” he added.
