Water level of rivers in Garhwal continues to rise

Published on:

The water level of all rivers in the Garhwal region is continuously rising and the incessant rains are creating threats for the residents of Rudraprayag, Srinagar, Devprayag, Tehri, Rishikesh and Haridwar.

The water of Alaknanda river is flowing above the danger mark and the rains on Sunday may increase the threat to the residents of Srinagar and its adjoining areas in Pauri district, particularly in the Chauras campus of Garhwal Central University in Tehri district. The alteration in the course of the Alaknanda river has created danger to Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway as the flow of river is cutting the base of the highway near Sriyantra Tapu, 3 km away from Srinagar towards Rishikesh. If this problem is not addressed then the river water may damage the national highway. The heavy rains and landslides on June 16-17 had already damaged the national highway at many spots, but these were repaired by BRO and National Highway Authority to some extent.
