VISAKHAPATNAM: Indian Navy vessel INS Kesari experienced water ingress while berthed at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam on Saturday afternoon, the Eastern Naval Command said.
No injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident, according to a spokesperson for the Eastern Naval Command, who shared an update on social media.
Operations to pump out the water were under way following the incident. The Navy has not reported any casualties or indicated that personnel were in danger.
INS Kesari is a Shardul-class tank landing ship commissioned into the Indian Navy on April 5, 2008. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, the vessel is approximately 125 metres long and can carry around 500 personnel.
The ship is designed for amphibious operations, including the transportation of troops and equipment. It is also used for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
The incident took place while the vessel was inside the dockyard and not during an operational deployment at sea.
