Warrant against Asaram Bapu for sexist remarks on Delhi gang-rape

Published on:

A court in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant against spiritual leader Asaram Bapu in connection with a complaint filed over his alleged sexist remarks in the Delhi gang-rape case in December last year. The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Muzaffarpur, SP Singh issued the “body warrant” after hearing a complaint case registered against Bapu for his “derogatory remarks” against women following the December 16 Delhi gang-rape case.

The petitioner, Sudhir Kumar Ojha claimed that Asaram Bapu had also hurt the religious sentiments of the people through his statements. The spiritual guru had allegedly remarked that the Delhi gang-rape victim could have saved herself by addressing her violators as bhaiyya (brother) and beseeching for mercy.

Asaram Bapu could be granted bail by the court provided he appears before the court during the next date of hearing fixed on August 12.
