Though he has been considered front runner in the race of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 lok Sabha elections, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi created suspense on Thursday by saying that he is bound to respect the mandate given to him by the people of Gujarat. BJP’s Campaign Committee chief added that he would like to serve the State till 2017.
“I have to do job on hand with full strength,” said Modi at a Teacher’s Day function in the State capital. Those who dream of becoming something end up destroying themselves, he said when a student asked him whether he would come and interact with them next year after becoming the Prime Minister. Instead one should dream of doing something concrete, he added.
Even after becoming the Chief Minister way back in 2001, Modi said he never desired for the post but the party High Command had given him the responsibility. Modi shared the dais with Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal first time after she returned the much talked about “Gujarat lokyayukta Ayog Bill 2013” and felicitated best teachers in the State.
Interestingly, a few days back leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jailtley opined that there should be no controversy over the issue of the party’s prime ministerial candidate and the BJP should announced its leader as soon as possible. Jaitley went on saying that the party should not get out hit-wicket as there is only way the BJP would lose the upcoming lok-Sabha elections. On the other hand Opposition Congress is gunning for his resignation. Even slogans were shouted in Parliament after explosive resignation of imprisoned IPS officer DG Vanzara targeting Modi and his close aide Amit Shah.
During the function, Modi also talked about world tallest statue of Sardar Patel. He said that every country in the world had aspired to build something monumental which assures its name in the world and India has nothing to boast of anything like that since Independence. Hence, the idea of making ‘Statue of Unity’ came, said Modi, adding that the work done by Sardar Patel of unifying the country is considered one of the greatest in the world.
Indicating to increase the amount of awards, he also took a dig at Central Government saying that Indian rupee has been admitted in ICU and continuously losing its value, so the State Government would raise the amount to appreciate teachers.
