A Special CBI court on Tuesday framed charges against Indrani Mukerjea, her current husband and erstwhile media baron Peter Mukerjea and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna in the Sheena Bora murder case, thus paving the way for the start of the much-awaited trial in the sensational crime from February 1.
Minutes after charges were framed against her and the two accused in the case, Indrani informed Additional Sessions Judge HS Mahajan that she wanted to seek a divorce from her husband Peter.
However, unaffected by her submission, Judge Mahajan told Indrani in a matter-of-fact manner, “No need to take (any) permission from the trial court”.
Peter was not present when Indrani made an oral submission before the trial court about her plans to seek a divorce from her current husband.
“My client (Indrani) told the court that she wanted to file for divorce (in family court) and also change her Will....the court said that it was her personal decision,” Indrani's lawyer Gunjan Mangla said, while talking to media persons outside the court.
Earlier, the Judge explained the charges to the three accused, including Indrani, as they were framed against them. All the three accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and said they would face trial. The three accused will be tried for offerences under 120 -b (criminal conspiracy), 364 (kidnapping), 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), 203 (giving false information in respect of an offence) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
