Vijayadashami was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervour in Lohardaga on Tuesday, with thousands of people gathering at the Bakshidipa Mela Ground to witness the traditional Ravana Dahan ceremony organised by the Central Durga Puja Committee.

The main attraction was the burning of a 60-foot effigy of Ravana, along with those of Meghnath and Kumbhakarna. The symbolic burning of Ravana’s Lanka and a spectacular fireworks display added to the festive atmosphere. Performers portraying Lord Ram, Lakshman and Hanuman also took part in the traditional ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Lohardaga MP Sukhdev Bhagat said Vijayadashami symbolised the victory of truth over falsehood and good over evil. He urged people to follow the ideals of Lord Ram and overcome the Ravana-like evils within themselves.

The MP said the true significance of the festival lay in adopting noble values and promoting peace, harmony and brotherhood in society. He emphasised that the message of Dussehra should extend beyond the ritual burning of effigies to inspire positive changes in people's lives.

Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Meena and Superintendent of Police Sadiq Anwar Rizvi also highlighted the festival's message of overcoming personal weaknesses and fighting social evils. They urged people to speak out against injustice and contribute towards building a better society.

The event also recognised the efforts of Durga Puja committees for their decorative arrangements and lighting. Pandals securing first, second and third positions were felicitated for their outstanding displays.

Those present at the programme included Municipal Council Chairperson Anil Oraon, Central Durga Puja Committee president Ramesh Kumar Sahu, general secretary Kunal Verma, Om Prakash and other dignitaries.

The celebrations concluded amid a festive atmosphere, with the traditional ceremony reinforcing the message of righteousness, unity and the triumph of good over evil.
