Videogate: BJP files complaint against Didi

There was more problem for the Trinamool Congress in the videogate scandal even as BJP on Sunday filed a police complaint against the party supremo Mamata Banerjee, MPs Derek O’Brien and Subroto Bakshi also the all-India TMC general secretary.

The complaints were lodged with Debashis Boral the Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch. After lodging the complaint at the lal Bazar Police Headquarters, party leader Jayprakash Majumdar said, “Today we have lodged a complaint with the police in connection with the morphed video showing Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh offering sweets to CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat,” adding the party wanted the police to treat the complaint as an FIR and arrest the persons named.

“It is clear that Derek O’Brien held the Press conference after getting the instructions of Mamata Banerjee. So it is clear who is responsible for the morphed video” Majumdar said calling the incident as unprecedented.

“There are so many incidents in Indian politics but the Trinamool has broken all records,” he said. “The BJP has lodged a complaint with our Cyber Crime section and we are looking into the matter,” Boral said.

Meanwhile, CPI(M) leader Biman Bose said the police should immediately arrest Derek O’Brien for “maligning the name of our senior leader Prakash Karat.”

Referring to the arrest of Jadavpur University professor Ambikesh Mahapatra three years ago when he was pulled up for sharing a cartoon of Mamata Banerjee and Mukul Roy Bose said if “Ambikesh Mahapatra can be arrested for a non-issue why should these leaders be not arrested for committing a crime.”

The morphed video published in a Press conference by Derek O’Brien showed Karat nibbling at sweets offered by Rajnath Singh. However the real picture was shot in 2013 when Modi was officially declared as the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate.
