While Jadavpur University continued to simmer on account of the continuing standoff between Vice Chancellor Abhijeet Chakrabarty and the students who have been demanding his resignation, the probe committee set up by the State Government and headed by Calcutta University Vice Chancellor Suranjan Das has prima facie found some substance in the complaint against Chakrabarty.
The Committee is probing the role played by the JU VC after a student was allegedly molested inside the campus.
According to sources, the victim’s father has told the probe committee that the VC did nothing to redress the issue and take action against the perpetrators of the crime. Instead he called in the police and got the students beaten up when they gheraoed him demanding proper action. Meanwhile the students continued to agitate and boycott classes in JU a day after as Pro-VC Siddhartha Dutta resigned his post on Thursday reportedly unhappy with the VC’s decision to bring police inside the campus.
