Victim's family: Playschool teacher hard working, homely

Right from teaching at the playschool near the house in Dharampura in Najafgarh area to filling forms of Government jobs to even working as a guard outside a private bank after note ban, Munni (name changed) — who was stabbed by a jilted man at her house —worked hard and read a lot of books, according to her cousin.

Showing a selfie of his cousin, who is battling for her life at the Safdarjung hospital on Thursday morning, Monu said among four sisters and one brother, the girl was the third to her parents.

living in Delhi for the past 12 years, the father of the girl works as a security guard in the Arya Samaj Road in Uttam Nagar.

Talking to The Pioneer, Monu said the girl, who recently turned 21 on January 6 this year, kept to herself.

“She always made good use of her time. Apart from teaching at the playschool, my sister was pursuing graduation through correspondence. Unlike the girls of her age who spend their time shopping or watching movies or chilling out with their friends, the 21-year-old girl made sure that she managed and looked after the house in the absence of her mother, a domestic help, who struggles day and night to earn a livelihood for the family.

Another cousin Pawan said, “Our sister kept to herself. We all kept in regular touch with each other but she never shared about any of the problems she was facing due to that man who attacked her.”

Standing among her cousins in the corridor of the Safdarjung hospital was the elder sister of the victim girl, Veena, who said, “She was battered and bruised. Those men tried to exploit my sister but she fought for

her honour.”
