As part of agreement inked between Varanasi and Kyoto during PM Modi’s Japan visit in 2014, a Convention Centre will be developed at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. For the development of cultural and social infrastructure, Japan will give financial aid. Varanasi is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world while Kyoto was the capital of Japan for over 1000 years.
Varanasi is also parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who on Thursday termed the ancient city as his second home and the convention centre project as ‘Rudraksh’ — symbol of love and ‘prasad’ of lord Shiva.
He said that the project is garland of love from Japan to Varanasi. The convention centre will have 1,200 seat capacity auditorium, meeting rooms, places for conferences and summits on Indian classical dance and music. The convention will have unique barrier free design too.
