In an attempt to reinvigorate the party and Government and their connect with the people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked all the BJP MPs and Ministers to visit their constituencies on December 25, the birthday of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which would be observed as national ‘Good Governance Day’.
The Prime Minister who himself will be visiting Varanasi, his lok Sabha constituency, advised that the MPs should be organising meetings, seminars and engage in technological innovations to advance the message of good governance on December 25. Modi said the representatives of the people should be monitoring the implementations of Government’s flagship programmes like Jan-Dhan Yojana, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, PM Gramin Sadak Yojna and Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan.
Modi , who was addressing BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, suggested that BJP MPs should be divided into three batches of three-time, second-time and first-time MPs and given orientation to take the concept of “good governance” to district, block and village levels. Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Ananth Kumar would be meeting MPs for three days, beginning Wednesday.
Rudy quoted Prime Minister as saying, “This Government is different and Vajpayee and ‘Sushasan’ (good governance) are same.” Modi directed that on December 25, all MPs and Ministers should give an hour for ‘Swachchh Bharat’. Government officials would also join in the programme. Rajya Sabha members have been asked to adopt one of the lok Sabha constituencies, never won by the BJP, and develop it by working there.
Each MP has been specifically asked to give feedback on the status of Jan-Dhan Yojana and constantly monitory it in his respective constituency, said Rudy who briefed newspersons after the meeting.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu congratulated the Prime Minister for his “successful” foreign visits to SAARC and Australia where he attended the G-20 Summit. While party MPs felicitated Modi, a booklet was also released on the overseas “achievements” of the PM.
Party president Amit Shah, who too addressed the meeting, asked MPs to strengthen BJP’s campaign in Delhi polls. He asked them to address around 2,000 poll meetings in the National Capital.
About 200 MPs have already given their consent for addressing such meetings in Delhi during the current Winter Session of Parliament ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls. This apart, Shah said BJP’s membership drive should be on a high gear and each MP has been made accountable to achieve the target of making a total of 10 crore party membership against the existing strength of 4 crore members.
Shah cited the example of PM Modi on whose plea in Assam the daily online membership had swelled from 4,000-6,000 to 75,000 in a single day. He said from November 1 to December 15, one crore members were enrolled online and telephonically.
