The MDMK led by Vaiko walked out of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu on Monday. Vaiko, whose only mission is to establish a separate Tamil country in Sri lanka, charged the Narendra Modi Government ‘anti-Tamil’ and working against the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu.
Since the MDMK does not have any MP of its own, the exit of the party will not in anyway affect the BJP Government at the Centre. The ties between the MDMK and the BJP started deteriorating from day one of the Modi Government assuming office.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP leaders who had gone the extra mile to placate MDMK leader Vaiko were taken aback by the decision of the later on Monday to walk out of the BJP-led alliance on frivolous issues. Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan, who had campaigned for Vaiko during the 2014 lok Sabha election , said he was shocked by the decision of the MDMK leader to quit the NDA.
“Vaiko was the first politician from Tamil Nadu to join the NDA alliance in 2013. He wanted to make the country free from the shackles of the Congress. Vaiko openly declared that Narendra Modi should be made the Prime Minister of the country and that was how he joined us,” Radhakrishnan said in a statement released after the exit of Vaiko.
The Union Minister said there was no pre-condition set by Vaiko to join the BJP-led alliance. “The Government led by Narendra Modi has done a lot for Tamil Nadu as well as the lankan Tamils. We do not know the reason behind the sudden decision of Vaiko to leave the alliance,” said Radhakrishnan.
