Vaghela flays Modi for Maya death plea

Published on:

Gujarat Congress legislature Party leader Shankersinh Vaghela on Wednesday flayed Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his Government's decision to appeal to get death penalty for former Minister Maya Kodnani and others for 2002 riots saying that it reflected the double face of the BJP leader who did nothing to prevent post-Godhra riots.

Vaghela said that Modi used the riots to come to power in Gujarat and now to get wider acceptability his government is appealing against the people whom he had used for communalizing politics. He also found fault with Gujarat Development Model of Modi saying that it was a myth and fiction and claimed that three crore people are facing acute water shortage.

He charged that Modi's double speak was also evident from his spending Rs 200 crore for drama of Sadbhavana Yatra and other overtures to reach out to all communities. He rejected the view that  2014 lok Sabha polls will be Modi vs Rahul Gandhi and quoted figures to hammer the point that Gujarat's development claims is "fiction and creative writing".
