Vadra deals: Cong tries to ignore rebel Gurgaon MP

Published on:

The Congress is in a dilemma over action to be taken against its Gurgaon MP Rao Indrajit Singh, who has been continuously embarrassing the party by attacking party president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra over his dubious land deals.

Rao held a Press conference on Friday to reiterate his demand for a wider probe into land deals including that of Vadra but the party appears not to give undue importance to the issue for the time being. It is instead trying to peg it as a Haryana issue to be dealt by the State Government to avoid Opposition’s demand for a debate on it in Parliament.

Further, the Congress is conscious that Rao has already floated Haryana Insaaf Manch and any harsh action at this juncture will not only give him a reason to quit the party, but also make him a hero for taking on his party’s top leadership over corruption. AICC general secretary in-charge of Haryana Shakeel Ahmad sought to play down Singh’s defiant behaviour. He said any action on the issues raised by Singh has to be initiated by the Haryana Government.

On Singh’s attempted clarification after his earlier remarks on Vadra made headlines, Shakeel appeared defending the MP saying: “He (Singh) had just said that nobody is above law and there is nothing wrong in that.” Asked about Singh repeatedly embarrassing the party and even holding Press conference to attack Chief Minister B S Hooda and rake up Vadra issue, Shakeel said that information about Press conference is being collected and based on the report sent by PCC the issue will be dealt.

Congress sources said that Singh has already registered his outfit and any action at this juncture would help him in his plan to quit the party as a martyr. Singh, who is at loggerheads with Hooda, reiterated his charge against State Government of changing master plans of 2015, 2021 and 2031 to help certain builders and property dealers.
