After lambasting the Congress-led State Government for its lackadaisical approach while carrying out rescue and relief works in the disaster-hit areas of Uttarakhand, veteran BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti alleged that the State Government has become insensitive and completely failed to redress the grievances of those villagers who faced the brunt of the natural calamities that wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand in mid-June.
While addressing mediapersons at a press conference held at the State party office in Dehradun on Friday, Bharti lamented that the State Government is yet to introduce effective measures for redressing the grievances of those villagers, who are living in the mountainous and fringe parts of Uttarakhand.
“lack of coordination among the different Government departments could be easily seen in the disaster-hit areas of the State,” she alleged, adding that it is a matter of grim concern that even after one month has passed since the State witnessed natural calamities, many villages are still waiting the relief work in the hilly parts of the State.
She also left no chance to corner the Congress-led State Government for playing politics over Uttarakhand calamity and termed an insensitive Congress has been attacking Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s rescue efforts in the flood-affected State.
“As far as the calamity in Uttarakhand is concerned, I would like to say that no political party should do any politics. If a Chief Minister or any political party wants to help the victims of the Uttarakhand incident, then I feel this help should be accepted,” she reiterated.
According to her, the public representatives are the target of ire from the victims, who lost everything in the disaster along the Char Dham Yatra route as relief works are still awaited in the higher parts of the State.
She also refused to comment on whether she will contest in the forthcoming general elections from Haridwar or not.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP leader, and MP Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said that a committee has been formed by the BJP Chief Rajnath Singh for monitoring the rescue operations in the disaster-hit area of the State and the committee will continue visiting the flood-ravaged areas of the State. Hussain said that the BJP will extend full support to the State Government for rebuilding a model State.
“So many pilgrims and locals have died, bodies are lying unattended, the locals have been completely destroyed and the Congress is indulging in politics over the natural disaster,” said MP Bhagat Singh Koshyari, adding that the State Government should immediately quash fees of the students.
He also demanded from the State Government to find land in Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar districts of the state to rehabilitate displaced villagers of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh districts.
