BJP general secretary Amit Shah came and conquered the hearts of party workers with his plain speak. He admitted that the party was plagued with infighting and he has come with a mission to rejuvenate it in this cow belt.

“Mark my words - Uttar Pradesh would pave the way to BJP’s victory in the next lok Sabha elections. The NDA will form the Government and provide relief to the people shaken by corruption and inflation,” Shah said at a office-bearer’s meeting here on Wednesday. The words had an electric impact and the workers, young and senior, shouted in unison, “BJP zindabad”.

It was Shah’s maiden visit to Uttar Pradesh after taking charge of Uttar Pradesh. The workers gave a rousing welcome to this leader from Gujarat known as a close lieutenant of Narendra Modi. His appointment as in-charge of Uttar Pradesh threw enough indications suggesting that BJP national leadership has taken Uttar Pradesh seriously and wants a better result from this politically sensitive State in 2014 lok Sabha elections.

The BJP has 10 MPs out of 80 in UP. Talking to mediapersons, Shah said that people are frustrated with the UPA regime. The onus is now on to fulfil the aspirations of the people.

“UP is very important for the BJP in the 2014 elections and the party will do everything for better results this time so that the NDA could form the Government,” he said, and added: “BJP

will concentrate on all the 80 lok Sabha seats.”

Shah also said that Narendra Modi is also expected to tour UP intensively.

The BJP general secretary held meeting with the State office-bearers and had one-to-one discussion with State party president laxmikant Bajpai and other senior leaders. He also met former UP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh.

During his two-day visit, he will examine the factionalism that has cost the party heavily in the last lok Sabha and Assembly elections. He is also expected to discuss with leaders the probability of Modi contesting lok Sabha elections from UP.
