The Supreme Court on Monday sought response of the Centre and UP Government on a plea by Jat Mahasabha of Meerut to transfer the probe into Muzaffarnagar clashes to an independent agency. The matter will be heard next on November 21.
The Jat organisation expressed no faith in the investigations being carried out by the Akhilesh Yadav Government in the State and demanded to replace the State police with either CBI or a special investigation team.
The bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam, which issued notice on the petition, is already monitoring relief and rehabilitation of victims affected in the riots that took place in September this year leading to 61 deaths. At present, more than 10,000 persons are reported to be in relief camps while state has claimed 41,000 persons to have resettled in their original village.
