On Monday, the Uttar Pradesh Police intensified security and crowd management measures at the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, one of the world's largest human congregations. Police personnel, including mounted units, patrolled the grounds to ensure a seamless and secure experience for devotees flocking to the Triveni Sangam for the auspicious Paush Purnima Snan.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vaibhav Krishna said over 10,000 personnel from local police stations, paramilitary forces, and specialized units have been deployed for the event. Speaking to ANI, he noted that approximately 60 lakh devotees had already taken the holy dip, and final figures would be released later.
"The arrangements made by the police are functioning well. Crowd regulations, traffic diversions, and parking accommodations are being efficiently managed. We are fully prepared to address any challenges," DIG Krishna stated.
Additional Director General (ADG) Bhanu Bhaskar echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the preparedness of the police force. "The fair administration is fully alert, with all forces deployed since 3 a.m. Bathing ghats are under constant surveillance, and there have been no reported issues so far," he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Dwivedi added that devotees continued to arrive in large numbers throughout the day. "The ghats are fully occupied, and the first day of the Maha Kumbh is proceeding peacefully. We are monitoring the influx and ensuring a safe environment for all," he said.
In a notable upgrade, five American Warmblood horses worth ?1.5 crore have been deployed for mounted police patrols. Known for their ability to sense danger from a distance, these horses provide an additional layer of security at the sprawling Mela grounds.
