An FIR has been lodged against former MP and sitting MlC Akshay Pratap Singh alias Gopalji and eight others in connection with the killing of two persons, including the son of a Congress leader, Mahendra Pratap Singh, on Sunday.

The FIR was lodged at Jagdishpur Police Station against Gopalji, Rudra Pratap Singh, Neelkamal, Uday Pratap Singh and five unidentified people.

Gopalji is the cousin of Uttar Pradesh Minister and controversial MlA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya. The case was lodged under Section 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) and on other counts of the IPC.

It may be noted that unidentified arm wielding assailants had shot dead Mahendra Pratap Singh (41) near Raniganj market while he was on his way home on Saturday evening. In the attack, Mahendra’s close aide Suresh Kumar was also killed in the shootout while the driver of his car was injured. The only survivor in the attack Deshraj had given a detailed account of the attack to the police.

Initial probe hinted that Mahendra was attacked due to old enmity with the accused. In his complaint, his father alleged that his son was attacked by Akshay Pratap Singh and his men. He had demanded immediate arrest of the named persons.

Mahendra’s father Jang Bahadur Singh is a Congress leader and is known as a prominent leader of Amethi. Jang Bahadur Singh is a former president of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Bhandaran Nigam, which is a State Minister-rank profile.
