UP Government’s move to withdraw cases against the accused in communal riot would have to stand scrutiny of the law, said Digvijay Singh.
Congress general secretary in Charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh has criticised the UP Government’s decision to withdraw cases against the accused in the Muzaffarnagar communal riots and said the SP Government would have to stand scrutiny of the law.
Talking to media after the coordination committee meeting of the State Congress in Bangalore on Monday, Digvijay Singh said the SP Government must stand the scrutiny of the law for the decision to withdraw cases against accused inthe Muzaffarnagar communal riots. Singh came down on the Samajwadi Party Government’s move in Uttar Pradesh to withdraw cases against the accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots, and said it has the right to do so, but the step should stand the scrutiny in the court of law.
He said, “Any State Government has a right to withdraw charges against the accused, provided they are convinced the person is innocent, but even withdrawal of these cases has to be ultimately scrutinised and approved by the judiciary.”
