In an attempt to bring transparency in the sale of stamps, the State Government has decided to introduce e-stamping in collaboration with Stock Holding Corporation of India limited.
An MoU regarding this was signed between the Government of UP and the Stock Holding Corporation here on Friday. “Stamp papers of over Rs 10,000 and more can be paid by e-stamping through Stock Holding Corporation and a person can get those stamps through the designated banks,” Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamp Alok Kumar told reporters here.
In the first phase, this project will be launched in eight districts of Agra, Allahabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Kanpur, lucknow, Meerut and Varanasi. “later this project would be extended to other districts and in a couple of years it would be implemented in whole of UP,” Kumar said.
He said after the implementation of this project the public will have a wider choice in accessing these stamps in addition to treasuries. “As these stamps will now be available at designated bank branches, there would not be any need to withdraw cash from banks and carry it in person,” he said.
Minister of Stamp and Registration Raja Mahendra Aridaman Singh who was present during the MoU signing function said that the sub-registrar’s office will be upgraded. These offices will have internet connection and bar code records. Once this is done, this system will be implemented across the State.
The Minister clarified that e-stamping will not be mandatory. People will still have an option to purchase paper stamps from the vendor. Executive vice-president Stock Holding Corporation RH Mewawala said that the company would try to provide best of facilities to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
