UP Government making water conservation a mass movement

Attempting to transform water conservation into a mass movement, the Yogi Adityanath government has instructed officials to organise meetings and training programmes in 550 gram panchayats of 26 development blocks in 10 select districts under Atal Bhujal Yojana.

The Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply departments have been entrusted with the responsibility of making the project a success.

On Thursday, a UP government spokesman said, "It has been decided that programmes will be expedited to complete village to village water conservation schemes on a war footing. People will be made aware of how to save water and how it can be reused."

The state government is ensuring the availability of drinking water along with water conservation in various districts. Under the Khet Tal Scheme, work is underway to ensure that the water of the farms goes back to the fields and roof-water comes back to the earth.

"Like the Swachh Bharat Mission, preparations are being made to make water conservation a mass movement. Because of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the work of water conservation schemes in villages is being completed at a rapid pace," the official said.

The spokesman further said that formation of water committees, conservation of water leaking from pipelines and construction of rainwater harvesting pits were also being done on a war footing, so that rainwater could be conserved, which could then be reused.
