UP effect: Sena cites Yogi, joins Opp clamour for farm-loan waiver

Published on:

Close on the heels of the Yogi Adityanath Government waiving farm loans worth Rs 36,359 crore, the ruling Shiv Sena on Tuesday joined the Opposition parties in turning up heat on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and demanding an early announcement on the farm loan waiver in the State.

On a day when the Opposition parties came down heavily on the BJP-led saffron alliance Government for its inordinate delay in announcing farm loan waiver in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray welcomed the UP Government’s decision to waive the loans of the agricultural loans of 2.15 crore farmers amounting to Rs 30,729 crore.

“By waiving the farm loans in his state, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given a big relief to the weak and oppressed farmers in his State. In the process, he has shown that electoral promises are not mere jhumlas. When a largest State like Uttar Pradesh can waive farm loans, what is holding agriculture-centric State like Maharashtra from waiving the farmers’ loansIJ Maharashtra Chief Minister should follow the footsteps of his counterpart in Uttar Pradesh and announce the farm loan waiver in the State,” Uddhav said in a statement issued in the evening.
