An alert has been sounded across Andhra Pradesh as the Meteorological department forecasts more rain in the next 48 hours.

Rain and thundershowers,  under the influence of a low-pressure area off the North Kerala coast, lashed many parts of the State.

Hyderabad has also been dealing with heavy rain and waterlogging since Thursday. The area around historic Charminar was also under several feet of water hampering the traffic flow.

Though the mid-summer rain brought down the temperature to pleasant levels, it also led to flooding in the low-lying areas of the city, traffic disruption and power outtages.

Meanwhile, weather department reports though the temperature is down by two to four degrees, it would not mean the end the summer as the temperatures would gradually increase in the next few days.

The well-marked low pressure over Southeast Arabian Sea was likely to go North-Westwards over the next 24 hours, said M Narasimha Rao, assistant controller, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad.

The weather office has, however, warned of rain in parts of Rayalaseema, coastal Andhra and Telangana on Friday and Saturday.

District of Kurnool in Rayalaseema, Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad and Nalgonda continued to experience rain on Friday. In coastal Andhra, rain lashed the East and West Godavari districts. It has also caused extensive damage to the harvested crops, especially the paddy kept in the open fields. Karimnagar’s main commodities market witnessed extensive damage to the paddy.

Similarly in other districts of Telangana, Warangal, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Nalgonda and Mahubnagar where rains continued on Friday damaging thousands of tons of paddy.

Agriculture market officials said the paddy was procured for transportation. In many places farmers were yet to harvest their crops. West Godavari District collector Siddharth Jain said that a control room was set up at the district headquarters to monitor the situation.

Fishermen have also been warned not to venture into the sea in view of the rough weather conditions.
