Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena suffered setbacks on Friday, as one legislator each of the two parties were suspended from the State legislative Assembly and Council respectively for their “unparliamentary language”.

MNS MlA Pravin Darekar was suspended from the State Assembly for a period of one year, after allegedly hurled abuses at Maharashtra Chief Minister Prtithviraj Chavan, while senior Sena legislator Diwakar Rawate was suspended from the Council till December 31, 2013 for using “unparliamentary” language in the chamber of the Chairman during a meeting. Darekar’s criticism came when Chavan was replying to a debate on various issues of Mumbai. Not satisfied the reply, the Opposition members raised slogans and staged a walkout.

As the Opposition members trooped out of the House, Darekar allegedly heaped abuses against the CM. Taking a strong exception to the “abuses”, the ruling Congress MlAs demanded that action be initiated against the erring Opposition member. later, the Government moved a resolution in the House, recommending the suspension of Darekar till the end of the Monsoon Session of 2014.

In the Upper House, legislative Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Patil moved a resolution recommending the suspension of Sena member Diwakar Rawate on the ground that the latter had allegedly used “unparliamentary” language while attending a meet held in the chamber of the Council chairman in connection with the Opposition’s demand for a debate over the irrigation scam.
