Asserting that the PDP-BJP alliance Government in Jammu & Kashmir is in a shambles, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Karan Singh on Tuesday demanded imposition of the Governor's Rule in the State . A day after seven Amarnath pilgrims lost their lives in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, 18 opposition parties also slammed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre as well the Mehbooba Mufti-led State Government for failing to provide security.
Singh strongly condemned the terrorist attack on Amarnath pilgrims saying it is antithesis of 'Kashmiriyat' and of the "great religion the attackers claim to be espousing". "Immediate action needs to be taken to identify the attackers and deal with them suitably," said the Rajya Sabha MP said.
"Mufti Sahib's well intentioned attempt in the light of the split electoral verdict to bring together what he called the North Pole and the South Pole on the basis of the agenda for alliance is in shambles," he said.
Considering the situation that has developed in the last few months, "my personal view is that the next step has to be the immediate imposition of the Governor's rule so that the entire security, political and regional situation can be revisited", he said in a statement.
"The Government needs to introspect as to why, despite advanced intelligence inputs, was there a failure to prevent this attackIJ" the Opposition resolution said."We the leaders of the Opposition parties strongly condemn the cowardly and ghastly terrorist attack on the Amarnath yatris," the resolution said.
