Union Minister of State Rao Inderjeet Singh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for a series of infrastructure projects worth about Rs 282 crore on the Gurugram–Jaipur section of National Highway-48. The ceremony, held at Apparel House in Sector-44, Gurugram, was attended by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra. The projects were launched digitally.

The development package includes the construction of four new flyovers, nine modern foot overbridges, widening of service roads and improvement of drainage systems. Officials said these measures will decongest traffic and enhance safety for commuters in Gurugram

and Rewari.

Speaking on the occasion, Singh emphasised that the Government’s objective is not just road construction but also ensuring convenience for citizens, prioritising road safety and protecting the environment. He expressed confidence that once completed, these projects will provide lakhs of residents in Gurugram and Rewari with a modern, safe, and well-organised traffic system, giving further momentum to regional development.

Harsh Malhotra underlined the transformation in India’s infrastructure growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “From independence till 2014, the country built 91,000 kilometres of national highways. In the last 11 years alone, over 60,000 kilometres have been constructed,” he said. He added that the pace of highway construction has risen from 12 km per day under previous Governments to 33 km per day now.

Malhotra also highlighted the Government’s enhanced focus on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), noting a nearly 550 percent increase in its budget since 2014. “These roads are not just concrete and asphalt, but pathways to economic growth and employment generation,” he said.

The projects, costing about Rs 267 crore, will focus on comprehensive improvement of a 58.8 km stretch of NH-48. Four new flyovers will be constructed at Pachgaon Chowk, Rathivas, near Hero Company in Dharuhera and Sahalwas to ease traffic bottlenecks. Additionally, 2.26 km of new service roads, 7.2 km of PCC roads, and 30.95 km of upgraded stretches will be developed.

To tackle waterlogging, 18.05 km of new RCC drains will be built, while 40.64 km of open drains will be covered and strengthened. Rainwater harvesting structures will be set up every 500 metres to boost groundwater recharge. Road safety measures include 32 new entry-deposit points, 2,475 signboards, 800 delineators, 29,613 road studs, 34 traffic impact attenuators, and three high-mast lights. In addition, 15,000 trees will be planted for environmental conservation.

For pedestrian safety, nine state-of-the-art foot overbridges worth Rs 15 crore will be built at Shikohpur, Manesar (near NSG camp), Binaula, Rathivas, Malpura, Jaisinghpurkheda, Sidhrawali, Kharkhara and Khajuri.

With these initiatives, Rao said, Gurugram and Rewari will see safer, smoother, and more sustainable traffic management in the coming years.
