At least nine people were injured after suspected Ulfa terrorists triggered a blast in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Thursday evening. Police said that the blast took place around 7.30 pm on Thursday and it injured nine people.

“The terrorists have kept the low intensity IED at a garbage bin at Pachali, located in the heart of Tinsukia town. Preliminary investigation says that time device have been used to detonate the IED,” said Tinsukia SP, Mugdhajyoti Mahanta.

The suspected militants have lobbed a grenade at the residence of a tea estate owner at Guijan area in the district on the wee hours on Thursday. The blast, however, did not injure anyone as the incident took place around 1.30 am.

“The security arrangements have been intensified in Tinsukia after the suspected terrorists triggered lobbed a grenade at the house of a tea garden owner,” he said.

Although the police are yet to name any outfit for the blast, locals, however, suspected the hands of anti-talk faction of Ulfa militants behind the incident. The belief seems to be justified as the Ulfa faction has substantial presence in Tinsukia along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border and the Army had killed a senior Ulfa faction leader on Wednesday morning in the district.
