Two civilians were injured after the anti-talk faction of the Ulfa militants had attacked unarmed civilians at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Monday night even as the Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will request the Central Government to launch some operations in the camps of northeastern militants in Myanmar.
A five-member group of militants came to a stone crusher unit at Namrup and fired randomly last night injuring two of the workers, police said adding that those injured were identified to be one Sanjay Bharati and Gopal Sahu.
The Ulfa faction, had claimed responsibility for the attack on last night and warned of further attacks in the near future. After the attack on Monday, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has rushed State Forest Minister Etuwa Munda to Dibrugarh to assess the situation and instructed the State Chief Secretary as well as the Director General of Police (DGP) to deal firmly with anti-talk faction of Ulfa militants, involved in the shooting spree at Namrup.
Gogoi also called up GoC 3 Corps of the Army on Tuesday morning over the last night’s incident and requested to intensify the combing operation to nab the ultras. Gogoi said he would take up with the Centre to take steps for an all-out operation against the anti-talks faction of the Ulfa and NSCN militants so that their camps in Myanmar can be busted.
Gogoi has also asked the Chief Secretary to formulate an effective action plan for further strengthening the law and order machinery in view of militancy threats. Gogoi said the administration has to gear up to counter the threats and to come up with the expectations of the people.
