U'khand CM: Govt's prerogative to take final call on lokayukta Act

Published on:

Following the demand of Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal that the State Government should implement the State lokayukta Act, which was approved by the President of India, State Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that he has called Congress legislature party and alliance partners’ MlA meeting on November 6; then the Act will be brought in the Cabinet meeting. State may make amendments or make a new Act.

As far as contempt of President is concerned then State Government is free to do amendments. For instance Parliament has made several amendments in our Constitution so does it mean they demeaned Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, who had drafted the Indian constitutionIJ

A day before Speaker Kunjwal had categorically said that the State Government should implement lokayukta Act immediately; otherwise it would make severe dent in the image of State Government. The CM said that it is the State Government’s prerogative to implement Act or not. For this we are going to have ClP meeting to check the pulse of MlAs then cabinet will take decision on it.

As far as mining is concern then 22 new rivers have been identified for mining in Uttarakhand during Cabinet sub committee meeting on Wednesday. During media interaction, CM Bahuguna shared that along with the earlier-sanctioned 6 sanctioned rivers in Uttarakhand work in the 22 new rivers, will be also be carried outfollowing guidelines of HC and SC.
