Two VIPs in trouble over violent actions of sons

At a time when the VIP culture is coming under an increasing attack and criticism from the general public ahead of next month’s elections, two VIPs — one MP and another a former Minister — are in the news over the misdemeanour of their sons.

Arvind Yadav, son of Congress Member of Parliament from Secunderabad was arrested by the Hyderabad city police on Tuesday, two days after he allegedly beat up a police constable in the old city. His friend and associates were already in police custody as the constable was undergoing treatment in a hospital.

A day after the incident in Hussainialam area of old city, the police arrested another youth Ravi Teja, son of former Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao after he was involved in creating nuisance at the Hyderabad International Airport and attack on a bus crew member in an inebriated condition. His friend Indirajit was also arrested.

Police said that the duo had come to the airport to see off another friend. They got drunk at the airport and while booking a RTC bus ticket to return to the city from Shamshabad they attacked a staff member Ramesh Goud.

In the incident of attack on the police constable, the police immediately detained the friend of MP’s son Sandeep but took two days to arrest the VIP’s son. Police sources said that the MP’s family tried to use their influence and pressurise the police to drop the case as the person involved was a youngster. The duo allegedly attacked the police constable G Vamsi when he asked Arvind Goud to park his car by the roadside as it was obstructing the traffic.

Arvind’s brother Anil kumar Yadav, who was an aspirant for a Congress election ticket, defended his brother saying it was Sandeep who had assaulted the constable and his brother was not involved.

“The constable was in a Mufti and he did not reveal his identity before the incident”, Anil Yadav said. Expressing regret over the incident, Yadav said that his family respects the police and the law. However the efforts to get the case dropped failed as the constable did not oblige the family and senior police officer said that law will take its own course in the matter.
