Amid heightened tension along the line of Control (loC) in Jammu & Kashmir, the Army on Thursday foiled two fresh bids by the militants to sneak into Kashmir Valley. The militants traditionally make desperate attempts in the last leg of autumn season to cross the loC before the snowfall blocks mountain passes.
The two attempts were made in north Kashmir’s Gulmarg sector in Baramulla and Nowgam sector in Kupwara.
Defence sources said that the infiltration attempts were successfully foiled as the militants were pushed back to the territory under Pakistani control. The two sides exchanged heavy fore during the encounters.
“Alert troops push back intruders in Gulmarg and Nowgam sectors after heavy exchange of fire,” a spokesman of Udhampur based Northern Command said.
There was no causality during the exchange of fire. Militants increase attempts to infiltrate and move away from Kashmir valley during the last days of autumn, generally a dry spell in Kashmir. They attempt to cross the loC before the snowfall blacks the mountain passes in the deep forests.
This year extra vigil along the loC due to heightened tension between Indian and Pakistani troops has resulted into foiling of several infiltration bids.
