Cracking its whip against the ‘notorious’ lawyer Divender Singh Behl, raided by the National Investigation Agency probing the links of separatists in the funding of terror and subversive activities, Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), Jammu Tuesday expelled him from the primary membership of the Association.
President of the Bar Association, Jammu BS Slathia while announcing the decision during the media conference claimed
“Behl was non-practising lawyer and had acquired membership of the Bar Association to establish his credentials in the civil society. He said during the recently held elections of the Bar Association Behl was not given any voting right as details of his suspicious activities had come in the public domain in the form of his anti-India hate speeches.
He said soon after we came to know about his activities, we verified our records and immediately decided to expel him without any notice from the primary membership of the association.
Slathia said for a long time efforts were being made by the vested interests to intrude in the Bar Association, Jammu but we will not tolerate these anti-national elements in our association. He said we have taken this decision to expel Divender Singh Behl from the primary membership with one voice and after consulting senior Bar members from the Sikh Community.
He said Behl had let down the Association by hobnobbing and flirting with such anti-national/pro-Pakistan elements like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and others.
BAJ President BS Slathia also claimed Bhel had let down the whole Sikh community.
He said the Sikhs were saviours of the Nation but it is a matter of shame that Divender Singh Behl had caused an affront to the self respect of the Sikh community and hurt the Sikh gurus.
Bar President also advised senior lawyers to verify the credentials of those seeking membership of the association before recommending their cases, and asserted that a “conspiracy has been going on to intrude anti-national elements into the body to dilute its stand”.
