Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has received an extortion threat demanding Rs 5 crore from a caller claiming to be Harry Boxer, a member of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's gang, according to media reports.
Kapoor approached the Mumbai Police after receiving the threatening call. The matter was subsequently handed over to the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch for investigation.
As part of the probe, the Crime Branch's technical team examined the audio recording of the call and compared the caller's voice with official audio samples of Harry Boxer available in its database.
Senior police officials said the two recordings did not match, raising suspicions that the caller may have been impersonating the gang member.
Police suspect that an unidentified person used the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to intimidate the actor and extort money. Investigators are trying to identify and trace the person behind the call.
Earlier in October, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was also linked to a shooting attack on actor Tiger Shroff. (with inputs from media organisations)
