In a move that will benefit commuters bound to South Delhi, Delhi Metro on Monday commenced the tunneling for the upcoming Hazrat Nizamuddin metro station.
The upcoming station will provide a seamless transition between train, metro and bus connectivity by connecting Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan. The station will have dedicated entry and exit points for the railway station and the ISBT.
The tunneling work was initiated between the 5.5 km long underground Hazrat Nizamuddin and lajpat Nagar stretch. The stretch is part of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's longest upcoming Mukundpur (Majlis Park) to Shiv Vihar corridor. The station is slated to be thrown open to the public by 2016. As per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), 53,370 people are expected to use the Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station by 2016 and by the year 2021, over 72,000 passengers will use the station every day.
"The 3.366 km underground stretch between lajpat Nagar and Hazrat Nizamuddin will witness a total of six TBM drives that includes two drives each from Hazrat Nizamuddin to Ashram, Ashram to Vinobapuri and Vinabapuri to lajpat Nagar," added the spokesperson.
