Tuktuk Mondal, the teenage girl from Mograhat in South 24 Parganas who was allegedly abducted by local Trinamool Congress toughs led by Babusona Ghazi and had been missing for more than two months, finally returned on Monday within hours of the National Human Rights Commission chairperson lalitha Kumarmangalam admonishing the State administration for rising crime against women in Bengal.
The NCW chairperson visited Mograhat on Monday.
IG law-and-Order Anuj Sharma, however, said the 14-year-old girl had returned on her own and that she was not willing to go back to her parents.
The victim’s father Subhas Mondal, a daily-wager, had earlier lodged a complaint with the police and had also petitioned the local panchayat, district administration and even the State Chief Secretary seeking help but nothing happened, the family sources alleged, adding “only with each complaint threats from the tormentors increased and her parents had to finally flee the village.”
Demanding the girl’s recovery, the State BJP had staged a week-long dharna at Mograhat.
The girl, who is currently in police custody, was abducted by a group of eight people led by Ghazi while she was returning from a bank, sources said.
