The fight for the control of the party as well as Government by the two warring factions of the AIADMK took an interesting turn on Friday. TTV Dinakaran, the sidelined deputy general secretary, issued a warning to the party cadre and leaders not to attend the September 12 general council and executive committee meetings convened by O Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisami.
The September 12 meeting has been convened to ease out V K Sasikala from the post of general secretary. “Edappadi and Panneerselvam are not authorised to convene general council meeting and the executive committee meeting . There are norms and regulations for convening the meeting. The meeting convened by them is illegal. legal action would be taken against those attending the September 12 meeting,” Dinakaran said in a release issued on Friday.
He said as per rule 20(6) of the party constitution if one fifth of the members under section 19(7) give it in writing calling for convening such a meeting only then the general secretary could convene it. According to Dinakaran, the only person who has the power to convene the general council meeting was V K Sasikala, the general secretary of the party. He also made it clear that there was no relation between the AIADMK and the general council meeting convened by the OPS-EPS duo.
In another development, Speaker P Dhanapal issued notices to all the 19 rebel MlAs who met Governor and conveyed to him that they were withdrawing support to Chief Minister Palanisami. Though the MlAs had given written explanation to the Speaker in response to his earlier show cause notice, the latter intimated them on Friday that he was not satisfied with it and asked them to meet him in person on September 5 with proper explanation. The Speaker had issued show-cause notices following the plea by the chief whip of the Government following the MlAs’ meeting with the Governor.
