TRS sweeps Secunderabad Cantonment Board polls

Telugu Desam Party-BJP alliance suffered a setback as they drew a blank in Secunderabad Cantonment Board elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday.

Of the eight seats of the Cantonment Board, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) won four and its two rebels also romped home. The Congress and an independent shared the other two.

Though the elections were held on non-party basis, it was open secret that which candidate was backed by which party. local TDP MlA Sayanna Goud was shocked as his daughter in law lasya Nandini was defeated in Ward No 4. Similarly former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana’s daughter Suhasini and son Vanit were defeated from Ward No. 2 and 5. Similarly a relative of former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha was also defeated in the elections.

The elections were fought fiercely as all parties tried their best to establish their supremacy over Secunderabad Cantonment area. For the TRS the victory was significant because the party was known to be weak in the State capital. Apart from winning the four seats, the party has also got a commitment for its two victorious rebels that they will return to party’s fold.

It was also a shot in the arm for TRS ahead of the crucial polls to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) later this year.

TRS leader and Tourism Minister T Srinivas Yadav expressed his happiness over the party's victory. "like Secunderabad Cantonment , TRS will sweep the GHMC polls too", he said. He alleged that the TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu had spent crores of rupees in Secunderabad Cantonment elections but failed to win a single seat as people had rejected the TDP-BJP alliance.
