Continuing its winning spree in Telangana the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti has bagged the Siddipet Municipality albeit with less than expected margin.
The party bagged 22 of the 34 seats in the civic body conceding most of the remaining seats to its own rebels.
While two seats were each shared by the Opposition Congress and the BJP, MIM opened its account by winning one seat. Of the seven victorious independents, six were TRS rebels and one was TDP rebel. The TDP drew a blank.
Siddipet in Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s home district Medak is seen as the pocket borough of irrigation Minister T Harish Rao. He had campaigned single handedly for the party. Party’s failure to record a clean sweep like Achampet Municipality in Mehbubnagar district recently was seen as a setback for Harish Rao.
TRS had won 6 seats unanimously even before the votes were polled and in today’s counting the party bagged 16 more.
Thanking the people of Siddipet for reposing their faith in the party Harish Rao assured them that he would strive hard to fulfill all the promises. Assuring that all the pending and new funds will be pumped in to the town, he urged the newly elected members to work hard for its development.
“Siddipet will be developed in to a model in accordance with the aspirations of the people”, Rao said adding that in future also TRS will win every election in Siddipet.
TRS has registered a series of impressive electoral victories in the recent month by winning the municipal corporations of Hyderabad, Warangal and Khamma, and Achampet municipal council, Narayankhed Assembly and Warangal lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has warned the elected representatives that if they don’t work to fulfill the aspirations of the people, they will pelt stones at them.
“If people have faith in you they will carry you on their heads. Otherwise they will hit you with stones”, he said while inaugurating a training camp for the newly elected members of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
He urged the members to make only practical promises and say only what they can implement. “If you work sincerely the results will be amazing”, KCR said.
On double bed room house scheme for the poor the Chief Minister said that the people were submitting hundreds of thousands of applications for the houses as they have confidence in the Government. He directed the officials to identify the land for constructing these buildings.
