The CBI on Friday subjected Trinamool Congress MP Ahmed Hasan Imran to marathon grilling for allegedly taking a large amount of money from jailed chit fund kingpin Sudipto Sen. This apart, in what can bring more embarrassment for the ruling outfit, another Trinamool Rajya Sabha member has come under the Agency’s scanner for accepting several crores from Sen’s Saradha group.

While in the first case Imran was questioned for more than 2 and a half hours by the CBI officers on how much money he had taken from Sen in excess to the deal where he reportedly sold a newspaper to the Saradha boss. He was also asked as to why he did not transfer the ownership of the said newspaper to Sen despite having received a huge amount of money and repeated reminders from Sen.

The MP’s replies were not satisfactory to the sleuths, sources said adding the officers would take some time to match his statements with the documents supplied by him.

Apart from Imran, another Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP with a media background had taken money to the tune of about Rs4.5 crore from Sen, CBI sources said. He could soon be summoned by the investigating agency.

The stated MP’s concern used to supply newsprints to Sen’s newspapers. The officials have found that the amount charged for supplying the newsprints was far in excess to the real market price of the product supplied.

Meanwhile, in a related development sources in the Trinamool Congress said jailed party leader and Minister Madan Mitra who was seemingly disgruntled with the leadership for making him a “scapegoat” while escaping the Saradha heat had established contacts with the Mukul Roy group.

Mitra who was currently undergoing treatment in the VVIP Woodburn Ward of State-run SSKM Hospital for ailments which were yet to be ascertained by the doctors had reportedly expressed his annoyance against the top brass for not doing enough for him to get him out of the prison.

Politicians from the Mukul Roy group which had chalked out all the plans to set up a new political platform had reportedly contacted Mitra whose supporters however said that the Minister knew his interests well and “will not do a blunder to join a group which is not yet born and incur the wrath of the Government.”

Already, two Trinamool MlAs had been suspended by the party for joining an Iftar Party attended by a large number of Muslim leaders thrown recently by Roy.
