Trial run of indigenous system to curb train collision from Oct

Published on:

Indian Railways will conduct trial run of the indigenously developed Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) in South Central Railways from October. This is expected to continue till December.

The Research Designs and Standards Organisation has developed this technique, which is much cheaper than its alternatives like Train Protection Warning System (TPWS) and Anti-Collision Device (ACD). While the cost of installing TPWS is about Rs 70 lakh per km, TCAS can be installed at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per km. “If outcome of trial runs on Hyderabad-Wadi and Vikrabad-Bidar sections consisting of 250 km is successful, we can think of gradually installing this TCAS system on nearly 50,000 route km of track that is without automated signalling,” Railway Board’s Member (Electrical) Kul Bhushan said.
