Transporters up in arms against AAP Govt polution fee, threaten agitation

Demanding withdrawal of the pollution fee imposed on entry of trucks in Delhi, Delhi Transporters' Association has threatened to go on strike against the Delhi Government if they fail to withdraw Pollution Fee Tax.

The AAP Government's 2015-2016 Budget has imposed Pollution Fee (Tax) on all commercial vehicles on each entry in Delhi, exempting buses and diesel cabs (taxis) that have sent shockwaves to the Goods Transport Fraternity.

"We being the primary and the oldest association of transporters of Delhi and NCR, incorporated since 1960, having the responsibility to protect the interest of the transporters, strongly resent, condemn the Budget provision akin to the era of Mohd Tuglak and appears to have been introduced without applying a sound mind," said Sundeep Jain, general secretary of the Delhi Transporters' Association.

Dubbing the move as a loot of the AAP Government, Jain said, "After Mohd Gauri and Mohd Gazni looted the country many times, it is now the AAP Government, which has decided to loot transporters of the country in the name of pollution fee," he said.
